-Albert Einstein
It doesn’t really matter how we got here at this point, but we all know that every business, individual and country has had to make major changes in order to survive. I really mean that point, in order to survive as a species. As a global civilization we have not faced a global invisible war, in this case a pandemic for over 100 years.
Coronavirus fears have given way to modified work arrangements and restricted travel. At the same time, the impact of this crisis is creating seismic volatility in the financial markets – and adding to the fears of already concerned employers and their workers.
So, what do we do now?
One of the challenges we face is fatigue from working and living at home all the time. Because of this, mistakes can happen with our work and home lives. I have found in my many years of speaking, leading and coaching that you can avoid many mistakes with certain foundations that you completely focus on with every single task. From laundry, to email, to cleaning dishes, to Zoom calls. And especially listening to family and co-workers.
1. Go the extra mile
2. Pay attention to the details
3. Double check your work
Practice this with your next task no matter what it is. You will be surprised of the results.
Stop Looking at the Clock
This is extremely imperative in order to focus on the here and now.
It’s like being buckled in for those impossibly long flights (back when we all used to travel). The worst thing you can do is look at the time or that map tracking the progress of the flight, which never seems to change.
It’s like that weird timelessness we’re all feeling these days—is it Tuesday? Thursday? Does it matter? Just focus on the moment, the here and now, and don’t check the time on your phone, the clock or the microwave.
Celebrate Small
Forget about how long this crisis is going to last—it’s time to set small, hyper-focused goals—weekly, even daily—and celebrate each along the way. That’s what we have to do, acknowledge the importance of small wins.
Celebrate the Lego tower your child built, the project that gets completed, finishing the laundry, the call that goes well, or even the tough week that’s finally over. Celebrating doesn’t have to be big, but it must be intentional—the congratulatory email, your spouse cooking, the recognition on the next Zoom conference, or even a simple “thank you.” Celebrate the small victories.
At some point, we will all get through this Coronavirus crisis. We are closer to the end then we are the beginning so continue to stay strong, positive and have hope.
Truly, we are always almost there.
Until Next Time…
